Butternut Squash Moustache

Mmmmm...Roasted Butternut Squash Soup.
So I picked up some butternut squash and was determined to use it for something fit for a cold winter night.  I found a great recipe online and tweaked it a bit.  I used sweet potato instead of granny smith apple ( I didn't have one), and a small yellow onion instead of shallots (I have yet to see these at our local grocery store).  I also added some curry powder and used vegetable broth instead of chicken broth. I also added a dollop of sour cream to the top. DO NOT skip the bacon. It made it taste so delicious!  I will definitely be making this soup again.
Even Adam, who is not a fan of soup, had seconds.  It was a hit in our house. Oh, and that moustache, this was its last appearance.  You will not be missed.

And Then She Was 5 Months...

Month 5 has been super fun, full of many milestones for Sydney.  She is very aware of her surroundings and wants to touch everything.  She can roll over both ways now, though she seems to prefer rolling from her back to her tummy still.  She babbles a lot more now, it's pretty cute to listen to.  The most exciting part of month 5, she cut her first tooth today!  She was chewing on Adam's finger this evening and he thought he felt something harder.  After further inspection, I saw the little white tip of a tooth poking out of her bottom gums.  We were pretty excited.  I did have a suspicion she might be teething, I am happy she was.  If this is Sydney teething, I will take it!

Here are some snapshots from November...enjoy!

0-3 month size dress re-purposed as a dress.  Sydney likes to put the ruffles in her mouth.
 I love that smile.
First time eating rice cereal, it was a hit in her books.

Nana "skype-sitting", Sydney seems to notice people on the computer more and definitely responds.  Even if it takes Nana acting pretty goofy.

Getting pretty close to sitting up on her own.
Tree branches are supposed to go in her mouth, right?
Reading a story before bed with Daddy.  Yes, that is a sick moustache, it's Movember so I will allow it but only for the month.
Catching up on her reading about dinosaurs.

First time in her high chair and eating peas, I think she thought they were just 'okay'.

Baby Feet

Having a nap with Daddy.

 She loves her feet.
 And startles easily.
 This is her model pose.
Going for a walk with our shades on.

Sydney has been growing so much lately, she has found her tongue in the last few days and likes to stick it out a lot.  She is still very in to her feet and puts them in her mouth every diaper change.  I also think that she is starting to recognize her name as she will respond to it.  It might just be my voice she is responding to, but I think she is figuring out that it is her name.

I fly out to Edmonton in 3 days, so Baby Shankowsky better hurry up and get here so I can meet you!  Being a mommy is the best, but being an Auntie is pretty great too.

Our Life Lately

Sydney has been learning new things every day it seems like, she is starting to enjoy the jumper and can just touch the floor now to get some movement on her own.  She has also decided that daytime naps are no longer her favourite thing and is starting to get really upset sometimes when I put her down in her crib.  To the point that I now have to hold her for around 5 minutes before she will stop crying and fall to sleep.  Sometimes she will stay asleep for 30-45 minutes when I put her down, and sometimes it is 10 minutes and then *pop* eyes open and "where's mommy?".  This has only started in the last 3 days, so I am still adjusting and trying to figure out what is wrong, does she miss me, is she overtired, is she sick??  I don't know, hopefully this is just a "phase" and it won't last long.  She is still sleeping through the night for the most part, so I am very happy about that.

She is also starting to enjoy being held high in the air and bouncing on your lap, it's so fun to hear her giggle and get that big grin on her face.  Those moments make all the crying worth it.  And I must say, the crying doesn't bother me, I just hate that she is upset and I want to make her feel better as fast as I can.

I am really looking forward to my sister's baby, coming soon!  We miss all our family and look forward to seeing everyone in November.  Hugs and kisses.

Sydney finds Moyer Street very entertaining, she could stare at it all day.

My friend Amy made Sydney this adorable top, sadly this was the last time she fit in to it.  I guess I will just have to hope I have another girl to wear it.
Adam made me take this one, she was on her tummy and did a face plant into some yummy baby puke.
Mike and Amanda's wedding.  Sydney was awesome, she slept through the entire meal and just hung out for the rest.
This one is for Nana, yes, she loves here Sophie.
I realized yesterday that this dress is also on the verge of being too small and she had yet to wear it.  It's pretty cute with her grey-striped tights. She looks so old in this picture, I guess she will be 5 months on Monday.
Here's the dress she got from Nana, she has some room to grow so at least she will get more wear out of this one.

Nana and Opa's House

Sydney and I hanging out before going to Uncle Mike's 30th Birthday Party. She went for the pouty lip, a favourite of hers.
Sydney has totally discovered that she can put everything in her mouth in the last few weeks.  Her all-time favourite, her hands.
Chilling in the Bumbo seat, she looks like she is sitting in her little throne. I love it.  I am looking forward to when she can sit up on her own, I think we have about another month or two before that.  I guess I can wait.
She loves cuddling with her Nana!

These past 4 months with Sydney have been so wonderful.  I am amazed how much she changes every day. She is so alert and wants to explore the things around her.  She is very interested in what's on the TV.  I love to see her smile and her giggles just melt my heart.  She seems to have the most giggles right before bath time in the evenings.  She loves her bath and is getting very active and kicking lots. We have been missing her Daddy these last two weeks as he had to stay in Manitoba for a training course, he is going to notice such a difference in her when we see him tomorrow.  I have loved spending time with family, but I wish Adam were with us.

Beauty Call

Sydney adores looking at her beautiful self in the mirror. She thinks she's pretty funny too. I think she is all that and more. I love her more every day.

Baby Legs

So I decided that Sydney's legs are officially chubby enough to try out her baby leggings.  They looked so stinkin' adorable that I had to prop her up for a photo...

Needless to say, it was time to eat, not take pictures!
Did I mention she can roll over from her back to tummy now...
So we tried again after some milk and she was nice and content and still super cute in her baby leggings.
Who couldn't love this face?
